NOT FOR ME
Not for me this potpourri of carnivals
and lakes, with people swimming to
stand about, and the popcorn-fantasy
cakes with their marks left on everyone's
chin. Even children seem struck by the fun.
I hold the rope the holds the tent that
holds this fantasy up : carnival barkers
and their genial announcements; I set
the pins, I run the Ferris. Not one
knows me but the one.
