CAVALIER
Here, here we hold the water in the
hands, and this is the deep blue river.
Outside of the fence, people stand
around. If it were Summer, I'd say
the Regatta was on. But, it's not.

Buffalo Bill, Howdy Doody, Hopalong
Cassidy, these are landsmen I knew.
Of the water, I knew really little.
Maybe Sky King, up above.

How many names, I used to wonder,
are there in use for God? And what then
is the use of a very distant sky and space,
if you cannot use it? The cosmic questions
of a 9-year old kid, who thought all
things ran on forever.
