911. PASSED OVER BY FIRE

PASSED OVER BY FIRE
(the Holy Ghost)
The wind came through on a pass -
welcomed by no one but present in spite.
Windows shook while the preachers spoke.
Bells rang themselves in a fury of noise.
A cat, creeping by, stayed as close to
the building's edge as it could.
-
If I could have Littlejohn's eyes, I'd
probably see just as well : all things,
intentional or not. Mrs. Wambercotey's
housedress flapping, the sauce in
the bib of her coat. What I could
do with such knowledge would
prove that knowledge is
power. Just like the
preacher just said.
-
Too bad they know
so little. Too bad
they know so
little at all.
