WATERLOO AND GOD,
FORTUNE AND VIETNAM
This beautiful late life on Earth:
I think that God is with me, waiting
on human things too. The curve of
that little, bared foot; that ripple of
indented skin and the pattern behind
the knee; the moist glisten of eyes.
A million other things as well, as wise.
We should not doubt for a moment the
presence of a greater sense, or this
little life on Earth imagined bears no
being. The watchful two - over there -
speaking quietly in their corner: pale
skin, quick chin, each detail formed
with care. An embodiment by another.
