AUTUMN GUYS WATCHING
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
The cattle drive was over and
everyone was fast asleep. More
tired people in one place, I'd never
seen. Their TV wall was blaring
some crud about yardage and gains
and time left. It sounded like a joke
to me. On the sideways table was a
pile of food for the picking. Beer,
and dips as well. I was too confused
to banter back and asked where I'd
left my key,s but no one knew.

Stranded in a sea of gloat, I felt
like Cowboy Jim awaiting the
wagon-master to come back in.
