CHINAMAN'S CHANCE IN HELL
I never went there, because I never
knew what it meant. Winter hours
seemed longer to me than Summer
hours ever did, so I figured it was
something like that : A way of talk,
saying something meant by a figure
of what you intend. But it did tend
to get confusing. I knew Hop Sing,
but that was something else; some
stupid show about weird brothers
and their dad and their problems
with horses and land. Hop Sing was
their cook; a perfect and subservient
Chinese guy who'd hop or sing upon
command, and precisely so. Or so
it seemed, but what did it mean?
