THOSE WERE PEARLS
She was fairly magnanimous
about everything, as we sat
down for another day. 'Those
were pearls that were her eyes.'
I wanted to say that, even though
it was different than T.S.Eliot's
version of things, and so we
spoke of other matters, and I
stayed away from that which
gathers its varied themes.

The Golden Bough? Not again!
I couldn't stay away from the
hyacinth girl and the pearls that
may have been her eyes. What
a mess; both those lines deceive.

'Let me leave this lemon for your
tea; which, by the way, I never
drink. Waiter, may have a bottle
please.'
