I'd remembered some fellow -
a Professor Derelictus or something
like that, at the university in Istanbul -
saying those words in a really funny English:
like, 'watch the gnomes, they will trample,'
and even as a foreign tongue it meant nothing
to me. The rest of the memory is a blur -
Drachmas, I think, and some coffee, with a
Turkish blend of tobacco and a man who
said it didn't exist. 'That's such an American
thing, this Turkish blend idea. Why
don't you just take it home?'
