WHAT THE STOICS
LEARNED IN THE HALL
I stood by while you stood still.
There were shadows on the wall;
just plain shadows, not spectacular
at all. Two carts and a pepper-shaker
later, the kitchen guy came out, with
a whistle and a snicker. Together.
'How'd he do that?' you said.
-
Thinking of how to answer, I kind
of turned away - it's like that with
indecision. Not wanting to look
foolish, I just didn't know, but
wouldn't say.
