13,162. OSAGE ORANGE

 OSAGE ORANGE
When they blew up the MOVE House,
long time back in Philadelphia, there
was no pretty picture to be had; but we
barely had it then....before it started at
us. The birds that may have settled in
those upland hills found a ghetto street
with little left to be improved : group
houses settled by what once had been
a meadow. 'Smile for the camera, little
blacks.' That's what the photo guy
from the Inquirer said.
-
After that day, all it was, I put my
suit of ideology back. Onto the
rearward shelf, behind the potted
plant, atop the Winter clothing; and
knowing that nothing was left except
torture. Then they bombed, and from
the air. It was over in a day.
-
So many had to go on living; people
get little choice in that matter, even
if no one else cares. Food, and toilet,
please. Smile for the camera, little
American blacks. The man from
the Philadelphia Inquirer is here,
and he wants to hear your story.
