312. A DUE RECOMPENSE

A DUE RECOMPENSE
Bearing forth with little, the judge's
robes sat down - pronouncing sentence.
From the small riser, a sentence of time;
'six months for this, and probation is thine.'
It sounded so regal, serious or biblical.
Yet I couldn't help but smile, realizing the
mistake had cost this man his time.
I wasn't him at all, for I had done the crime.
